Wheaton streets flood with families from far and wide to celebrate Halloween in style. Ghouls and goblins set to take downtown Wheaton by storm Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the annual Trick-or-Treating celebration. Candy hopefuls are in for a treat as over 60 businesses serve festive goodies for local families.
This annual event draws the largest crowd of any Downtown Wheaton Association (DWA) event, but the crowd’s anticipation is nothing compared to the business’s, who prepare to go the extra mile year after year.

One example of extreme Halloween-ing is owner-operators Mark and Lynn Holstein of Holstein’s Garage. As one of the oldest businesses in downtown Wheaton, Holstein’s Garage delivers an immersive experience for families.
The garage gives “a handled bag that has full sized candy bars, cookies, chips, gummies, marshmallows and a lollipop. We also include a juice box,” the Holsteins shared in a joint statement. “One thing we enjoy doing is including a small craft in the treat bag that will coincide with our theme. It will come with everything needed to complete the craft.”
Holstein’s Garage is one of many businesses participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project, where businesses with teal pumpkins provide non-food items as treats to those with allergies.
“We have always participated in the Teal Pumpkin project. The bags for those that request it are filled with the craft project from the treat bags, another craft or a Halloween type object or maybe a can of play-doh and a small water bottle. We want everyone to feel included and thought of,” the Holsteins added.
As for the garage’s theme this year, attendees will have to wait until the day comes. New this year, a PDF of the Trick-or-Treating map is available on the DWA website, along with the full list of participating businesses.
