See the Updates to Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn, Now Open for the Season!

A brand new wading pool, improvements to the locker rooms, and a GIANT yummy Sunset Shake!

By Erica Alhorn May 28, 2024

Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn, IL was originally constructed in the 1950s, and has had no major improvements for more than 20 years. So it was well overdue for a makeover! In 2022, a referendum was passed to put forth many improvements to parks and facilities all across Glen Ellyn. And Sunset Pool was one of them.

Some of the notable updates to Sunset Pool:

  • A brand new slide feature
  • A children’s wading pool
  • Direct entry option to the pool after check-in
  • Two new family restrooms
  • Sensory Swim Nights
  • And more exciting updates!

They also made some YUMMY additions to the snack bar options -- like Sunset Shakes and Sunset Slushes! So you don't have to travel far to get your Instagram-worthy desserts after a day at the pool!

Sunset Pool is located at 483 Fairview Avenue, Glen Ellyn:

Sunset Pool is adjacent to another Glen Ellyn playground that just got an update as well last year!

As they're still putting the finishing touches on some of the updates, the operating hours aren't consistent for the full summer yet. Below you will find the Current Hours, and a link to the full schedule for the rest of the summer:

Glen Ellyn Park District Announces Sensory Swim Nights for Summer 2024

The Glen Ellyn Park District is excited to announce the return of Sensory Swim Nights! These evenings provide a relaxing and inclusive aquatic environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities.

Sensory Swim Nights offer a quieter pool experience with reduced noise levels. Music, water features, and whistles will be turned off (except for emergencies), and interruptions will be limited. This creates a calmer atmosphere for those who may find regular pool hours overwhelming.

“We understand that traditional pool settings can be challenging for some people,” says Courtney O'Kray, Superintendent of Marketing & Communications at the Glen Ellyn Park District. “Sensory Swim Nights offer a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy the water.”

Sensory Swim Nights will be held on:

  • Wednesday, June 12, 6-7:30 pm
  • Monday, July 15, 6-7:30 pm
  • Monday, August 5, 6-7:30 pm

Sensory Swim Night admission is just $3 for residents and $4 for nonresidents.
