Andy Warhol has taken over DuPage County! The main event is the immersive exhibit at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art, located at the McAnich Arts Center at College of DuPage and definitely worth putting on your summer to-do list! Additionally, each town is celebrating in their own unique way (more about that down below)
OUR EXPERIENCE |
There was so much to look at! The galleries had so much incredible history, details, and original artwork. We didn't opt for the audio tour, but there were a lot of visitors taking part in it! The interactive Silver Clouds room was incredibly unique and represented an actual immersive exhibit that Andy Warhol created (see the video below). There is someone monitoring that room to insure gentle interaction, so I would recommend close supervision on that. Definitely make sure you pop out onto the patio that's made to look like Central Park, NYC, where Andy was known to frequent. I also had no idea that Andy Warhol had his own magazine, so that was really interesting to see those articles and magazines on display.
Of course with any pop-up experience there had to be a selfie station, so it was fun to take pictures inside the iconic soup can, sitting alongside Andy Warhol, and inside of a Brillo box.
One of our favorite parts was looking at all the local famous people from DuPage County and College of DuPage alumni.
We loved the Pop Art Print Factory! They had tables set up outside in the hallway and inside the dedicated kids room with stampers, crayons, markers, and supplies to make your own pop art prints. It was really cool to see all the really unique creations hung on the wall from other visitors! There was a kid-friendly video playing on a loop that gave some history about Andy Warhol, his life, and his art. Part of it was animated and it kept my daughter's attention for the whole time.
Mac Kid Pro Tip:
If you have a souvenir obsessed child like I do, you probably also have to catch your breath each time you see the price tags in the gift shop at every event, museum, and traveling show you visit. And this gift shop had so many amazing things - puzzles, shirts, prints, postcards, etc. So if it's in your budget, I highly recommend checking it out and getting something. But here's a tip... the Warhol reusable mugs are $7. HOWEVER- if you buy the mug at the cafe and also buy any drink (even bottled water), the mug is only $4. Great deal and it's something that will actually come in handy and I'm sure get used a lot this summer!

DuPage communities have nominated their local hometown heroes and celebrities. Learn more about these notable people and where the murals are located.
