National Pizza Day is February 9th! There's no better way to celebrate than with a slice of the best pizza, some crafts and fun pizza jokes with the kids!
Order out!
Give the cooks a break tonight! Support a local business and order a pizza from one of the many amazing pizza places in our area. We've narrowed down and compiled the BEST local spots in our official Local Pizza Guide. Make sure to order early, these spots may be busy given the holiday!
Make your own pizza together!
Two of our favorite local pizza places offer at-home kits. The kids will love kneading the dough, spreading the sauce, sprinkling the cheese, and picking out all their favorite toppings themselves!
- Barone's Glen Ellyn
- Jr. Pizza Making Kit for $5.95 includes pre-rolled pizza dough, tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and a Jr. Pizza Maker hat! You can order online under the Pizza section of their online ordering platform.
- Billy Bricks Wheaton
- Home Pizza Kits can be customized with any toppings and come in quantities of 2, 4, or 8 pizzas. You can also just order the dough or sauce if you want to half-diy. Head to their website under the Promotions section to order online.
Make a fruit pizza!
Turn dessert into an art project! Kids love using the fruit to make fun designs. And because there's lots of different fruit you can use, it's a colorful and healthy way to make a sweet family tradition. It's super easy to make using pre-mixed dough and just a few ingredients. View the recipe HERE.
Do some crafting!
Making a pretend pizza at home with your little one is such an easy way to practice fine motor skills, shapes, and colors: it only takes a plain paper plate, and any kind of art supplies you have at home - paint, crayons, colored paper, etc! Draw directly on the paper plate, or practice scissor skills by cutting out shapes and gluing them on. Plus it can be customized to your little one's skill level and age. And if you really want to get crazy, then you can have your child "cut" slices of pizza, or if you have older kids, you can use it to talk about addition, subtraction, or fractions using the pie pieces you've just cut out to make a "whole" pizza!
Tell some jokes!
My kids love a good food pun! Here are some of our favorite pizza related dad jokes to giggle at while eating your pizza around the dinner table:
- What type of person doesn’t like pizza?
A weir-dough. - What’s a dog's favorite kind of pizza?
Pupperoni. - How does a pizza introduce itself to you when you meet for the first time?
Slice to meet you! - What did the aardvark order on his pizza?
He asked for Ant-chovies. - I asked the waiter if my pizza would be long.
He said, “No sir, it’ll be round.” - Why did the pizza-maker ask for a raise?
He kneaded more dough. - How do you fix a broken pizza?
With tomato paste.
