A New Family-Friendly Soccer Experience Kicks off in Wheaton this Fall

Meet the Wheaton Wanderers, Wheaton's first UPSL soccer club built for fun & families

By Erica Alhorn, Macaroni KID Wheaton July 27, 2026

Football can sometimes get boring. But the Wheaton Wanderers is changing that. Created by a local Wheaton soccer player, this is Wheaton's first UPSL semi pro soccer club, but with food trucks, carnival games & Wade the Flamingo. The most fun 3 hours in DuPage County.

Wheaton Wanderers FC is a Division 1 UPSL (real, sanctioned semi-pro football) team, and here's what makes them different from every other team in the league:

  • Fans get on the field before kickoff for a kickabout.
  • Pre-game challenges for the crowd.
  • Halftime shows where kids beat our flamingo Rickle on penalties.
  • A full carnival around every match.
  • Kids under 10 free.

It's the Savannah Bananas idea, brought to soccer. The football is real semi-pro. The experience is built for families who want more than 90 minutes of sitting still.

So who's behind this crazy idea?

John Kadiman is the 24-year-old founder of Wheaton Wanderers FC. Originally from Indonesia, he came to Wheaton College and stayed for the community he loves. A follower of Jesus, he tries to live with spontaneity — playing soccer, cooking, reading, traveling and seeing the world, playing piano and violin, and spending time with good friends. He wants to leave an impact on the world. His favorite quote is from Rocky: "It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." Fun fact: he's training to play for the Indonesian national team at the 2030 World Cup as the starting center midfielder. Right now, he's obsessed with soccer. Alongside the Wanderers, John also runs Viva Praesentia, Salt Club, and Metaphase Consulting.
