Picture this: a beautiful, warm summer day with clear skies and a slight wind that cools you as you walk through the signature arch that marks the entrance to a place where all are welcome. As your group walks across the wooden bridge, the sound of music reaches your ears, occasionally being interrupted by the sound of children laughing and playing. At the end of the bridge you see the reason behind all the joyous noises – it’s a Summer Saturday at the Sensory Garden Playground!
Hosted by the Play For All Playground & Garden Foundation in conjunction with the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), Summer Saturdays, formerly known as Summer Play Days, fall on the third Saturday of the months May through August and run from 10A to noon. Summer Saturdays were created as a way to celebrate inclusive play and serve as a dedicated day where children and families can come together, meet new people, and play!

Summer Saturdays are more than just a dedicated day to play; they include activities, arts & crafts, giveaways, refreshments and more! Each day even has its own unique theme with activities and crafts being designed around those themes. This year’s themes include a Garden Party in May to celebrate WDSRA’s 50th anniversary, a June Pirate Treasure Hunt filled with swashbuckling activities, a July Beach Bash featuring various departments across the Wheaton Park District, and a Storybook Adventure in August with local libraries reading their favorite stories at the playground.
No tickets are needed to come to a Summer Saturday, however event registration on Eventbrite is encouraged, and there is a $5 suggested donation per family.
The Play For All Playground & Garden Foundation recognizes that visiting a new place or engaging in public activities can be challenging, which is why we offer Social Stories to help visitors feel comfortable and confident.
